Sure, you want to go to an expensive restaurant and a show. But you also want to be able to buy groceries and pay the electric bill. So stay home, hang on to your money, and make Valentine’s Day romantic and memorable.
BREAK OUT THE PHOTO ALBUM and share memories together.
LEARN TO SAY “I LOVE YOU” IN A DIFFERENT LANGUAGE.
Spanish, Italian and Latin: Te Amo
Pig Latin: Iay Ovlay Ouyay
Hebrew: Ani ohev otah (to female) or Ani ohevet othah (to male)
Yiddish: Ikh hob dikh lib
Sign Language: Using your dominant hand (if you’re right-handed, use your right hand), thumb, pointer finger and pinky out straight, with middle two fingers straight down, touching the palm.
PLAY A BOARD GAME at the kitchen table after the kids go to bed. Or set up an activity that the children can do by themselves while you play. You’ll be interrupted, but you’ll manage to spend time together. Make sure you already did Valentine’s Day activities with the kids, before shuffling them off to the other room.
LEAVE A VALENTINE WHERE YOUR SWEETIE CAN FIND IT: In a book she’s reading, on the remote control, in his laptop.
USE A DRY ERASE MARKER to write love notes on the refrigerator, on mirrors, on the underside of the toilet lid. It’ll wash off with a wet cloth.
DO A CHORE FOR YOUR BELOVED. Put in a little time and effort and show your love by lightening the load.
SHARE BREAKFAST TOGETHER. If it’s a workday for you, set your alarm clock and get up a half hour early. Don’t forget the CD of your favorite love song playing in the background.
COOK A MEAL TOGETHER. Slip a Valentine in the recipe book or egg carton, so your sweetie can find it.
CARVE HEARTS IN THE TOP OF A STICK OF BUTTER to use at dinner time. Cover and let your sweetie discover it.
LAUGH AND BE SILLY TOGETHER. Look for the funny side, and make it a point to laugh together. Corny jokes are very romantic.
DANCE in the living room to your favorite song.
